What Float is

Float is a coffee discovery app for the UK. Point it at a bag of beans or the front of a café and it tells you what you're about to drink — where the coffee was grown, how it was processed, who roasted it, and what other people made of it.

Underneath is a catalogue of British speciality coffee that we research and maintain ourselves: each coffee recorded from the roaster's own page, each café confirmed from the venue's own website. Where a roaster doesn't publish something, we leave it blank and say so rather than guessing. You can browse what we hold today:

• Roasters on Float — UK roasters and the coffees they list
• Cafés on Float — London venues, with the beans they pour

The app launches in London first, then spreads out across the UK. It isn't in the App Store yet — you can join the waitlist to be told when it is.

Why we're building it

Good coffee in this country has got dramatically better and no easier to find. A bag on a shelf tells you a farm name and a country; a café tells you nothing at all until you've bought the cup. People who care end up relying on luck, or on the same two places they already know.

Float's bet is that the information already exists — roasters publish it, in detail, with real care — and what's missing is somewhere to put it that you can use while standing in a shop.

Float is a trading name of Float Coffee & Kitchen Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales.

Roasters and cafés

If you run a roastery or a café and you're listed here, that listing is yours. We build it from what your own website states, we don't charge for it, and we'll correct or remove it on request — just email us.

If you're not listed and you'd like to be, email us that too. We're adding roasters and venues continuously.
